Wallanet Launches E-commerce Website MasonMarine.net

Mason Marine needed an e-commerce website with all the normal e-commerce functionality: products that went into categories and sub-categories with multiple images for each product, a user-friendly shopping cart, online credit card processing, coupon codes, and a sophisticated backend to administrate all aspects of the website. The real challenge with this project was in getting the huge database of products (nearly 4000 products in more than 400 different categories) that Mason Marine offers onto their website in an organized manner so customers could find products in an intuitive way. In addition, Mason Marine ships everything themselves so they needed a scalable way of printing shipping labels and postage.

Since they needed quite a bit of customization we decided to go with a vanilla install of osCommerce and customize it as needed. OsCommerce in its vanilla form isn’t really a turnkey solution, but it’s very easy to modify and offers a great base for building a site when the site owner needs a lot of customization.

The site launched in December 2006 and by July 2007 they were doing more than seventy thousand dollars per month in gross sales.
